Get It Up

Sung to the tune of "Threes," circa 1983 by Leslie Fish
In youth, I was the master of the sky, and had it right,
Engaged in flying every day, and loving every night.
No longer active as I was when I was just a pup,
I'm on the ground, remembering when I could get it up.
Three things to remember when you try to fly a plane:
The fuel you burn, the runway used, the altitude you gain. The takeoff and the go-around are very much the same.
The constant force of gravity you somehow have to tame.
With altitude and density it sometimes can be tough:
With pitch and power and thrust you vainly try to get it up.
Three things to beware of when you try to go aloft:
The turbulence, the ceiling, and the runway when it's soft.In flying, as in all of life, the years will take their toll.
We cannot always follow through with what is in our soul.
And so, we've reached the point where hangar flying is enough.
We sit and reminisce about when we could get it up.
Three things you must notice when you heed the siren's call:
The preflight, and the runup... and the third, I can't recall.
