The most elegant design in the world is valueless, if it cannot be economically manufactured and successfully marketed. Bearing this underlying philosophy in mind, Microcomm will apply the following guidelines to any hardware designed on a consulting basis for your organization:
involve your personnel in all preliminary, critical, and final design reviews
determine the ultimate application of the end-product
consider the environment in which it will be used
ascertain the level of skill and training required of the end-user
thoroughly test all designs, both in software and on the bench
perform human-factors analysis of all designs
complete sensitivity analysis of all critical component values
avoid the use of single-sourced or proprietary components where possible
build more than one working prototype, to ensure reproducibility
embrace stable, tested and mature technologies wherever feasible
thoroughly document all designs
identify both strengths and weaknesses of each design alternative
maintain a complete engineering change history
train and assess your manufacturing, marketing, and product support personnel
help you to monitor quality and reliability throughout the product's life cycle
anticipate obsolesence, and plan for modification, revision, or follow-on designs
