  • People over 70 who consumed the most Vit. E, had the best lung function in a group of 178 elders.
  • Don't take your B vitamins after noon, unless you intend to be up all night!
  • A well-known medical journal (1996) just published a study where people with carpal tunnel syndrome had their blood levels of B6 checked. Because their levels were "normal", the authors concluded that B6 doesn't help carpal tunnel syndrome! Hello, did these people ever have logic training? The ONLY valid conclusion is that blood tests can't diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome!
There are plenty of other well-known medical journals that say that B6 DOES help carpal tunnel syndrome. When journals publish illogical or wrong conclusions, it just confuses the public!
  • If you should want to take away your chocolate craving, chromium (400 milligrams) a day will do the trick.
  • Many allergic kids continue to have "cradle cap"-like scalp. This responds very quickly to B6 and magnesium.
  • Dong Quoi has potent estrogen-like effects. I tried it because it looked like I was going through menopause at age 41! Ever since I had Aubrey when I was 30, my periods have been getting shorter and lighter with more clots. Just recently, I took it for about 4 days. I stopped when my breasts got sore. Anyway, this month I flowed for the full 7 days. First time in years! My mom took it for two days when she was 64, and she got hot flashes!
  • Sulfite sensitive asthma responds to molybdenum supplements. Many sources tout Cat's Claw for arthritis. I have not noticed any benefit from it, personally. Perhaps it does not help with rheumatoid arthritis. Or arthritis due to food reactions.
  • If your brain refuses to stop thinking at bedtime, try 400 mg. of magnesium. Milk of Magnesia (unflavored, brand name,) settles kids down. And helps the bowels!
  • Vitamin D is essential to immunity. Elderly and people on seizure medications need extra Vit. D.
  • Are you remembering your dreams? If not, you need more B6.
  • Don't get your rings stretched. Try 50 mg. of B6 first.
  • Night-time leg cramps can be due to a food, medication, or a lack of Vitamin E.
  • Men who had low magnesium levels had the highest mortality from heart attacks in one large study done in American emergency rooms. Now, most emergency rooms give magnesiumintravenously right away, as it improves survival.
  • I know this one is simple, but maybe someone hasn't heard yet. White spots on the fingernails means dietary zinc is not being absorbed.
  • 400 micrograms (mcgs)a day of chromium will smooth out wild blood sugar swings, EVEN in brittle diabetics. Check your multiple vitamin to make sure it contains chromium.
  • If your child doesn't want to chew or can't swallow evening primrose oil capsules, you can cut them open and rub them on his skin. This is especially effective on an area that has excema. I don't recommend this with cod liver oil or your child will smell like a fish. How to tell when your child needs more oils? Read Superimmunity for Kids by Galland and Buchman. Or check out my Ask Dr. Mom column on EFAs (essential fatty acids.)
  • When your vitamin C levels are high enough, you bowel movements will become loose. I take 2000 mg a day because of my allergies. (This is the tip that got me kicked off ADDParents List.)
  • Flu season is here. Make sure you have enough cod liver oil and zinc for the kids.
  • Aubrey's knees are so itchy in the winter, he will scratch them bloody. Last night, a magnesium capsule stopped it in 20 minutes flat.
  • If your extremeties are cold, and your normal body temperature is less than 98.6, you and your family need more pantothenic acid, B5. It's a genetic thing. Such people will sometimes have burning, itchy feet
  • Avoid braces and palate spreaders, start giving your children Vit. D supplements while they are still growing.
  • Don't forget to take zinc to shorten the duration of your cold.
