Collected Bits of Wisdom from Various and Sundry Sources

When I was 16, I decided that I wanted to become old and wise. Old is easy. Wisdom requires more work. Here are a few things from my collection.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing. Edmund Burke

You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.      Margaret Thatcher

Time lost is when we have not lived a full human life, time unenriched by experience, creative enjoyment, and suffering. Dietrich Bonhoffe

What is a thousand years? Time is short for one who thinks, endless for one who yearns. Alain

Dost thou love life, then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of. Ben Franklin

This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.                                 Unknown

I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.                                                      George Bernard Shaw

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Albert Einstein

When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is trying to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind.
J. Krishnamurti,   Freedom from the Known

Never doubt that a small group of dedicated people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.   Margaret Mead

Lead,  follow, or get out of my way.        Muriel Hykes

A wise concept from Paul Lutus:  Careware.
