Will you share the baking soda remedy? What do you do, Mix it with water and make them drink it? My Sarah used to have an ugly milk (lactose or something) allergy and nearly stopped breathing (at least it seemed that way at the time, she was wheezing and struggling for air before it wore off.) One time we were out in the boonies on a Sun. afternoon drive and stopped for frozen custard. (Well who would have thot they put milk in the stuff?) Of course, Sarah wanted a taste too. Of course, I didn't have baking soda or epinephrine with me at the time. With my husband yelling at me for giving it to her, asking if I had anything to trach her with and driving like a maniac for the nearest hospital, believe me, she never got frozen custard in the car again! Thank goodness she's outgrown it. Gayle

I DO keep baking soda, cups and water in both cars! You dip a level tsp. (For smaller kids or milder reactions 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon,) of baking soda in a cup of water to wet it. Pop it in their mouths and hand them the water to drink. (My mom took it dry.) Alka-Seltzer Gold works too. Mind you, this is not medical advice!

  1. 1. Don't use more than two times a day.
  2. 2. Don't use on people who have kidney failure because it contains sodium.
  3. 3. Don't give anything by mouth to anyone who is unconcious.
(Although when we brought Curran back from the NICU, and I was expecting a reaction, I had baking soda water and a dropper ready. When the apnea alarm went off and he was unconscious, I dripped it into his mouth and within a minute, he was awake.)
