NEW:  Unmanned Aerial System (Drone) Pilot Training

The Opportunity:

Commercial unmanned aerial systems (commonly known as drones) represent the next major growth area for General Aviation. Whereas the early 20th Century ushered in the Air Age, and the mid 20th Century represented the start of the Space Age, one could call the early 21st Century the beginning of the Drone Age. The unmanned aerial systems industry is currently in its infancy, with commercial interests just beginning to discover the wealth of applications which can be fulfilled with these small, inexpensive, and very capable remotely piloted vehicles. AvSport offers you an invitation to get involved on the ground floor of what promises to be aviation's next Great Frontier.

The Challenge:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the government agency responsible for regulating flight activities in US airspace, has not yet written policies and procedures for commercial drone operation. As an FAA Safety Team Lead Representative, AvSport's Chief Flight Instructor is closely tied into the rulemaking process, but for the moment FAA rules are in a state of flux. Right now, the FAA is granting commercial drone operations waivers (Form 333 permits) on a case-by-case basis. All waivers issued to date have required commercial UAS operators to hold pilot's certificates. Eventually, we expect that FAA will create a commercial drone operator's permit, but it does not yet exist.

The Solution:

AvSport is proud to be one of the first flight schools in the nation to rise to the challenge of providing training for commercial UAS operators. As soon as FAA announces its Practical Test Standards for drone license applicants, we will be developing curriculum to prepare our students to meet those standards. In the meantime, the FAA is accepting a Sport Pilot Certificate as suitable for issuance of a 333 waiver. As it happens, AvSport is one of the leaders in the Light Sport industry, and has been training students for the past six years to earn Sport Pilot licenses at a fraction of the cost required to achieve the traditional Private Pilot certificate. As FAA drone pilot licensing standards emerge, we will be among the first flight schools to offer such training -- but given the realities of the regulatory process, we expect that to be two to three years away. In the interim, if you want to get in on the ground floor of a new industry, AvSport invites you to train with us for the Sport Pilot license. We will also help all of our graduates with preparation and filing of their 333 waiver applications, so you can start turning dreams into profits immediately. Contact our Chief Flight Instructor now, to reserve your slot in our next Sport Pilot class.

The Curriculum:

Although it's too soon to know for sure, AvSport anticipates that our Drone Operator Training curriculum will encompass instruction in the following areas:

With drone technology and AvSport training, the sky is no longer a limit.
